Arabian horses (or Arabs) are horses which originate from the Arabian Peninsula for over 2000 years.

Arabian horses were bred for their many desirable qualities including endurance, beauty and strength. Many experts on horses have concluded that Arabian horses are among the oldest breeds in the world.

Bedouins are nomadic people and are credited with training Arabs first. The Bedouins made every effort to protect the purity of these horses, and many could trace back the lineage of the horses they owned. During this time, it was critical to have a horse which was strong, fast, and courageous. It was vitally important that it was able to survive within a desert setting. Horses were used to take the Bedouin people into battle against other tribes.

The Bedouins bred some of the most striking horses. Information regarding the horses' linegeage and ancestry was exchanged during the trade of this breed. Arabian horses come in a variety of different variations or strains. These horses have a common ancestor and look. Including; Kuhaylan, Dahman and Hadban.

The Arabian horse (Arab) is possibly the most popular breed known. Their heads are shaped like wedges, and they have large eyes and a small muzzle. Possibly the most prized Arabs are the ones with concave noses. An Arabian horse should have an arched neckline, with lean muscular legs. An Arab's coat has a sheen which catches the sun. Consequently, Arabian breeds are not often viewed at top end competitions due to their inadequate bascule in comparison to other breeds.

Generally, the coat of an Arab horse is grey or brown although some may have black coats. Arabian horses with black coats were rare, because in the desert they would absorb heat, and this would be dangerous. Because the Arabian horse is so genetically pure, it is commonly used in enhancing the characteristics of other breeds of horses. Arabian horses are mild mannered and have a good temperament, as a result they are very attractive to breeders.

Arabian horses have been used in professional horse competitions for a long time, and Arabian horse games are being held every year in which the horses and their owners can compete with each other.
