Dogs are members of your family. You love them. It will not be easy to deal with the problems associated with aging. However, this is the time when they need you. They have protected and provided you with companionship. It is time to express your appreciation. Only if your dog is in terrible pain and terminally ill, should you consider, euthanasia. If your dog is still healthy, you can have many more years together.

Sometimes they may do things that will be bothersome. Remember that they do not purposely do things to irritate or inconvenience you. Your pet may get sick on bedding quilts. Do not go with your initial reaction.

Remember dogs are not human. Do not look for the roasting pan with lid. Instead, try not to feed them before they seek a soft spot to lie. You may have to prohibit access to beds, at certain times. If the dog sleeps with you, this is not a time in its life to change. You will only make the dog feel that it is being punished.

If your pet has frequent nausea, you might try a honey and cinnamon mixture. You can place a teaspoon or 5 milliliters of honey on a saucer. Stir in about 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon. This would be about 1.5 milliliters. Feed the mixture to the dog. If they resist, you can simply put some in their mouth. They will swallow it. Most dogs appreciate the sweet treat.

In case your pet has specific medical problems, consult your vet, first. The honey and cinnamon should be safe for your dog. However, do not take any chances, if you have concerns.

Does your pet have trouble with its dog food? You might consider preparing meat for meals. You can buy inexpensive meat like ground turkey. This will also be easier for the dog to chew. It may be easier to digest, also. Dogs need meat. They are carnivorous.

Dogs will often lose their vision as they age. You may need to make adjustments for your pet. Do you plan to rearrange the furniture? Then plan on using your cordless handheld vacuum. The dog will be running into unfamiliar things. This may also cause injury.

Final thoughts

Your dog is a member for your family. They will grow old and die long before most other family members. Make allowances for the changes that they will go through. Do not give up on them. Your kids are watching. Some day you may be in the same position.
