How To Prep a Dog For a Doggy Sitter

We don’t always have the option of leaving our pets with friends or in doggy care centers during the holidays. And you know how difficult it is to find a reliable dog walker during the holidays. So the only option sometimes is to take your dog along with you. Now the problem starts if you are going to stay with your family or friends. Your dog and you can have a wonderful time or it can turn into a disaster. The outcome of your trip totally depends on how you tackle the situation. You will need to take faa dog crates and small dog clothes along as well.

If you are taking your dog to somebody’s house don’t expect them to accommodate your dog’s needs as well as yours. Your pet is your responsibility so you will have to carry all the necessary items along. These should include a crate to house your dog at night. It will be very unpleasant if your host discovers a little brown pile of gift left behind the couch by your dog. You will also have to carry some doggie treats and dog food along with you.

You should also give due consideration to your pets comfort in this new home. I am sure your host will give you a warm bed to bunk. However, you will have to carry your dog’s bed along with you. This will make your dog sleep in peace. It will also ensure that your host doesn’t have a sleepless night thinking about the mess that your pet is making on his furniture.

You should also carry a good supply of chew toys along. When a dog is in his home he knows what should be chewed and what shouldn’t but in the new house it’s all delicious and up for grabs. So a good way to stop your dog from taking a big bite off your host’s favorite chair would be to keep him occupied with his chew toys.

If your host family has young children you need to be particularly careful if you don’t know how your dog reacts around children so you may want to keep your dog away from them to avoid problems. Be sure to take along wire dog crates for your doggie.

Even if your dog is well trained and doesn’t mind being around strangers and children, the kids may not be as well trained as him. They may get over excited and things may quickly get out of hand if their behavior startles your dog. In worst situations your dog may even resort to biting. So if your dog has an unpredictable temperament or is aggressive around strangers it would be best to leave him in the kennel or with a pet sitter.
